Dame Laura Knight DBE RA RWS (British 1877-1970)/View from the Malvern Hills/signed lower left/oil on canvas, 59.75cm x 50.75cm/Note: From 1930 Dame Laura Knight and her husband Harold Knight made annual visits to The Malvern Festival, which had been established by their friend Barry Jackson. By the start of World War ll, they were living in a house in Colwall, to the west of Malvern. Knight met gypsy families whilst there and painted many scenes of them working in hop fields and at horse races, often painting from the back of her antique Rolls Royce, the only car that would fit her easel. The present picture shows a view from the top of the Malvern Hills, looking south west.
