“Dear creature! how much I am obliged to you; and when you have finished Udolpho, we will read The Italian together; and I have made out a list of ten or twelve more of the same kind for you.”
“Have you, indeed! How glad I am! — What are they all?”
“I will read you their names directly; here they are, in my pocket-book. Castle of Wolfenbach, Clermont, Mysterious Warnings, Necromancer of the Black Forest, Midnight Bell, Orphan of the Rhine, and Horrid Mysteries. Those will last us some time.”
“Yes, pretty well; but are they all horrid, are you sure they are all horrid?”
“Yes, quite sure; for a particular friend of mine, a Miss Andrews, a sweet girl, one of the sweetest creatures in the world, has read every one of them.”
Chorley’s Auctioneers is to offer The Ombersley Court Library collected by the English aristocratic family of Sandys across five centuries.
Proceeds of the sale will will be donated to the Hartlebury Castle Preservation Trust (Charity 1127871).
Hartlebury Castle is a historic Worcestershire estate first given to Bishop Aelhun in 855AD. Home of the Bishops of Worcester until 2007. it has a longstanding connection with the Sandys family throughout its history.

Bindings a little rubbed and both volumes with loss to head and foot of spine, titles gilt rubbed, multiple tears and losses to margins of both volumes, vol 1 p 210-211 slightly affecting text, 1 page of advertisements to back, light foxing to text and endpapers, volume 2 p 61/62, 137-140, 229/230 with paper repair to upper margin affecting text not aligned, 148-149 with centre linear smudge, page 246 and 247 numbered incorrectly as 146 and 147
