She settled in England and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1871 and married Henry Merritt the art critic. Anna Merritt was commissioned to paint murals in the Arts and Crafts church of St Martins, Blackheath, the work was undertaken between 1893 and 1895 and depicted scenes from the life of Christ, including a fresco of 'Suffer Little Children to come unto Me'
