A Regency Gothic sofa

A Regency Gothic sofa with triple triangular arch back, each with bobbin turned five arched splats to the backs, the lower rail mimics the top rail, the sides with matching single arch backs, the cane seat on bobbin turned front legs, 150cm wide, 57cm deep and 90cm high

The design of this settee has often been attributed to Gillows of Lancaster. A set of six chairs with a similar design were offered: Dawsons Auctioneers, 25 May 2023, lot 347 stamped GW.

The design of this settee has often been attributed to Gillows of Lancaster. A set of six chairs with a similar design were offered: Dawsons Auctioneers, 25 May 2023, lot 347 stamped GW.

All over good condition. Back faded and dry. Later recaned. Some damage and bowing to caning and pictured. All over slight scuffs and light scratches commensurate with age and use. Castors with corrosion. 1cm old chip to centre front seatrail. Some joints later reglued.
