Attributed to Peter Waals (1870-1937) after a design by Ernest Gimson (1864-1919), a set of eight solid Cuban mahogany dining chairs (six singles and two armchairs) of Classical form with a shaped serpentine back rail above a finely carved lattice back of tapering dimensions, the square seat supported on straight legs, the armchairs with sweeping carved arms and exposed tenon joints

Footnote:These chairs show significant design similarities to a recorded set of walnut chairs designed by Gimson gifted to Leicester University now in situ at the Fielding Johnson Building in Leicester designed in 1932 and made by Waals.
