This lot has been authenticated by the Edward Barnsley Educational Trust in 1993 as having been made in 1956 for Mr Rowland Laye by George Taylor in approximately 182 hours.

Edward Barnsley was the son of Sidney Barnsley (1865-1926), he was educated at Bedales School which his father had helped to design alongside Ernest Gimson, whose influence plays large over the work of this famous Cotswold family. Edward trained with Geoffrey Lupton in Froxfield and struck out alone in 1923. The Barnsley Workshop is synonymous with the finest quality workmanship and design, frequently working on bespoke commissions and continues the legacy today.

All over in good condition. The top with several ring marks, minor water spotting and light scuffs and scratches. The drawers running smoothly. Top drawer with some stained to interior, lock replaced and possibly escutcheon replaced. The drawer front with scattered coffee spatter marks. And light scuffs and scratches. The stringing in good condition. Handles original and in good condition.
