Edwin, 2nd Baron Sandys' copy of the two volume set. Edwin 2nd Baron Sandys only spent a year at Winchester, before moving on to Eton, where he was considered one of the best scholars of his day. Sandys was one of the 356 patrons of the publication of the edition of the Novum Testamentum Alexandrinum in 1786. New Testament, in Greek and Latin and a friend of Samuel Johnson.

Chorley’s Auctioneers is to offer The Ombersley Court Library collected by the English aristocratic family of Sandys across five centuries.

Proceeds of the sale will will be donated to the Hartlebury Castle Preservation Trust (Charity 1127871).

Hartlebury Castle is a historic Worcestershire estate first given to Bishop Aelhun in 855AD. Home of the Bishops of Worcester until 2007. it has a longstanding connection with the Sandys family throughout its history.

Volume 1 rebacked and restored but a little wear to foot of spine, not collated, volume 1 hinges cracked, endpapers foxed, occasional spotting and foxing, volume 2 occasional spotting and foxing, endpapers heavily foxed and browned. Both volumes a little wear to extremities and feet of spine with date stamp worn
