Although Westwood comments that "It would have had greater merit on the score of originality had it preceded Chetham's Vade Mecum", Howlett's work is described by James Robb as being "generally regarded as the most practical and useful fishing manual of its time. Amongst other matters he describes how rods of various types may be made and, probably for the first time, how rings may be fixed for smooth running of the line ...." Robb Notable Angling Literature p. 93; W. & S. p.110

Chorley’s Auctioneers is to offer The Ombersley Court Library collected by the English aristocratic family of Sandys across five centuries.

Proceeds of the sale will will be donated to the Hartlebury Castle Preservation Trust (Charity 1127871).

Hartlebury Castle is a historic Worcestershire estate first given to Bishop Aelhun in 855AD. Home of the Bishops of Worcester until 2007. it has a longstanding connection with the Sandys family throughout its history.

Angler's sure guide: Binding with wear to corners. joints with cracks, hinges cracked, plate of angler with poor paper repair to lower edge, Text pages toned and spotted. Scattered foxing and spotting to text 
Complete Angler: Binding sounds with some wear / crack to lower front joint. A little wear to extremities and corners bumped. Pastdowns with browned edges, pt 2 y2-y7 loose
