Vellum Bindings A collection of vellum bound 18th century volumes and sets to include: [Bentley (Richard] Phileleutherus Lipsiensis, Remarks upon a late DIscourse of Free-Thinking in a Letter to N.N, London: for W. Thurlbourn, 8vo, I'll vellum, 7th edition, bookplate for Lord Sandys; Voltaire, Elemens de la Philosophie de Neuton [Isaac Newton], Amsterdam: Etienne Ledet, 1738, 8vo, full vellum, portrait frontispiece and another, vignette title in red and black, multiple vignette headpieces and endpieces, 7 plates out of which 1 folding, bound with [Idem] La Merope Francoise, Paris: Prault Fils, 1744, 8vo, full vellum, marbled endpapers; Dionysii Halicarnassensi, Opera Omnia Graece et Latine, Leipzig: Gotth. Theoph. Georgi, 1774, 8vo, full vellum with re title labels and black volume labels, frontispiece, 6 volumes; together with several series of classical authors and others (44)

Chorley’s Auctioneers is to offer The Ombersley Court Library collected by the English aristocratic family of Sandys across five centuries.

Proceeds of the sale will will be donated to the Hartlebury Castle Preservation Trust (Charity 1127871).

Hartlebury Castle is a historic Worcestershire estate first given to Bishop Aelhun in 855AD. Home of the Bishops of Worcester until 2007. it has a longstanding connection with the Sandys family throughout its history.
