A Charles II rectangular lead cistern, dated 1677, the front decorated with three rows of five squares containing heraldic devices such as lions, fleur-de-lys, crowned roses, scallop shells and flowers, the date flanking initials T over GK, 104cm wide x 75cm deep x 80cm high/Note: A related group of cisterns made in or around Exeter during the late 17th Century are known, these examples incorporate similar decorative devices to the present lot and two are illustrated in L Weaver, English Leadwork, London, 1904, p. 72-73. Another example was sold by Christie's, The Secret Courtyard, The Seago Collection, 9th June 1999, Lot 20
